Rui is the Disaster Risk Reduction Coordinator at the GEO Secretariat, a seconded expert from Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). She is responsible for supporting GEO’s DRR Working Group and relevant Work Programme activities while working closely with UNDRR on the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. Before joining the GEO Secretariat she worked for an international organization and various Japanese government agencies on science, technology, and innovation policies in the context of international cooperation and development aid, including roles at JAXA, the World Bank, the Cabinet Office, and MEXT. She received a Master of International Affairs from Columbia University.
