As an economist at the Science Coordination Office at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, Dr. Reetwika Basu is developing a white paper based on previous NASA studies of the economic impacts of satellite-based tools and maps, aiming to enhance understanding of the gaps and feasibilities for conducting economic impact analyses of Earth observations. She collaborates with SERVIR’s Southeast Asia and West Africa hubs to observe the economic impact of their tools and services. Before joining SERVIR she pursued a PhD in Economics at Washington State University, specializing in Environmental and Natural Resources Economics and Advanced Econometrics, where she developed agent-based models for efficient water allocation in agricultural water markets and collaborated with the Washington State Department of Ecology on the impact of climate change on streamflow. She completed her master’s in economics at the University of Calcutta.
